Water & Climate Justice

at John Jay College

Climate change creates uneven risks and vulnerabilities, yet climate research and action is not always sensitive to questions of justice. While the geophysical drivers and impacts of climate change are increasingly clear, the social dimensions that shape those impacts and responses are less well understood.

Mission

We are building a community-responsive approach to climate research and action by bringing the social and natural sciences into deep dialogue with local experiences. We leverage our roles as researchers and teachers specializing in water and climate justice to link knowledge production to community engagement and public policy in order to support more informed and just responses to our changing environment.

Our Vision

We envision a world where justice is central to climate policy, research, and action. We are working to shape equitable and community-informed approaches to climate that are responsive to those who are most vulnerable to the negative impacts of environmental change. By connecting disciplines, institutions, and communities, we aspire to advance knowledge and action in support of more just and resilient futures.
